Idukki: Two youths were arrested in Upputhara here on Wednesday after police seized three kilograms of cannabis during a raid. The arrested have been identified as Biju Kumar, a resident of Chinthalar in Kuttikkal, and his friend Jinish.

Acting on a tip-off, the Upputhara police carried out the operation at Biju's residence, where they recovered the cannabis. Both Biju and Jinish, who were present at the time of the raid, were subsequently arrested.

During interrogation, the suspects said that more cannabis was stored at Jinish’s residence in Pashuppara. Acting on this information, the Vagamon police were alerted and they conducted a raid at the location, recovering an additional two kilograms of cannabis.

Separate cases have been registered by Upputhara and Vagamon police in connection with the seizures. Both accused are currently in police custody. The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday.

The raid was conducted under the leadership of Upputhara Sub-Inspector P N Pradeep Kumar. According to the police, the duo had been sourcing cannabis from other states and distributing it locally, mainly targeting migrant workers.
