The Thamarassery Police have registered five cases and booked 300 individuals in connection with Tuesday’s violent protest at the Fresh Cut waste management facility in Kozhikode. The FIR cited offences including rioting, attacking police personnel with intent to murder, arson, trespassing, illegal gathering with weapons, and violations under the Explosive Substance Act and the Kerala Prevention of Damage to Private Property Act.
Kozhikode Rural Police Chief K E Baiju, who was seriously injured during the clash, underwent plastic surgery on his upper lip on Tuesday night at a private hospital. His condition is said to be stable. Other officers injured include Perambra DYSP Sunil Kumar, Additional SP AP Chandran, Sub-Inspectors Sooraj, Vinesh, and Rajeesha. An FIR has been registered against 200 protesters in the matter. DYSP Chandra Mohan is investigating the cases.

A separate FIR has been registered for assaulting a cop from Thiruvambadi station, whose phone was seized while he was recording visuals at the scene. Another FIR was registered for assaulting Thamarassery SHO A Sayooj and Sub-Inspector Vishnu.
Residents have been protesting the Fresh Cut facility for over six years over persistent pollution and foul odour. Although the Kattippara Grama Panchayat had initially cancelled the company’s license, it later received approval from higher authorities, prompting residents to resume their agitation. Following recent clashes with police, an all-party collective has announced a hartal in the locality. The hartal will be observed in Velimanna, Chakkikkavu, and Koodathayi in Omassery Grama Panchayat; Vezhuppur, Kudukkilummaram, Karingamanna, Andona, Maikkavu, and Karimbalakkunnu in Kodenchery Grama Panchayat; and Poyilangadi, Orngattoor, and Manipuram in Koduvally Municipality.
