Vaikom: Two young swimmers from Vaikom are preparing to make a splash in history. Twin sisters Naivedya and Niharika Harish, UKG students at Velloor Bhavan’s Balamandir School, are all set to take on the challenge of swimming across Vembanad Lake, from Alappuzha to Kottayam, in a bid to set a new record.

The twins will begin their extraordinary attempt at 7:30 am on October 25 from Koombel Kadavu (ghat) in Cherthala and are expected to reach Vaikom Beach upon completion. Their goal is to secure a place in the World Wide Book of Records by successfully crossing the lake.

Naivedya and Niharika have been training under the Subrahmanya Swimming Club, Udayanapuram, Vaikom, which is run by retired Fire Officer T Shaji Kumar. Currently, they are practising in the Muvattupuzha River under the supervision of Biju Thankappan of the Dolphin Club, Kothamangalam.
