Idukki: Tensions flared at Kanchiyar on Friday evening after a car driven by DCRB Grade Sub-Inspector (SI) Biju Mon crashed into two motorcycles and another car, injuring three people. The accident occurred around 7 pm on the Highland Highway. One of the injured, identified as Sunny from Kanchiyar, was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Residents alleged that the officer was under the influence of alcohol and blocked the vehicle, demanding immediate action. The situation escalated into a heated argument between residents and the officer.

Kattappana police reached the spot and took the SI into custody. Police said further action would be taken based on the medical examination results, while residents argued that a breathalyser test should have been conducted at the spot. Traffic, which was disrupted due to the crowd, was later restored.
