Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its rain forecast for Kerala on Friday, placing Kannur and Kasaragod under an orange alert while withdrawing the earlier alert issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

As per the revised forecast, a yellow alert has been sounded for seven districts — Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram. The IMD said that heavy rainfall is likely to continue across the state till October 28 due to a depression over the southeast Arabian Sea.

“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40–50 kmph) are very likely to occur at one or two places over Kerala and Lakshadweep on October 24. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are also likely at one or two places from October 25 to 28,” the IMD alert stated.

The IMD has banned fishing off the Kerala and Karnataka coasts from October 24 to 28 due to strong winds and rough seas. Fishermen have been warned of wind speeds reaching 35–55 kmph along the Kerala coast and adjoining areas from October 24 to 26.
