Mayyanad: Sarojani, the 107-year-old member of the Kudumbasree unit in Mayyanad Panchayat, passed away on Friday morning after a prolonged battle with age-related ailments. The wife of the late Damodaran of Chakkuvantazhikathu Thodiyil in Valiyavila, Ward 16, Sarojani had been bedridden for the last four months.

A dedicated member of the Bhagyalakshmi Kudumbasree unit, Sarojani had worked as a cashew worker for many years. On her 100th birthday, the Kudumbasree unit organised a grand celebration in her honour, which was attended by local panchayat authorities. Over the following years, she continued to receive recognition and celebrations from the Kudumbasree unit and the local ward member on her birthdays. Just six months ago, Sarojani marked her last birthday with a special ceremony, where she was presented with a shawl (ponnada) and a cake-cutting event.

Her cremation took place at the Polayathodu Crematorium. Sarojani is survived by her children Yashoda, Sashi, Yashodharan, Satheesan, Sathi, Vijayamma, Susheela, and Sulochana, as well as her in-laws Haridasan, Indira, Leena, Raju, Prasannadas, Pashupalan, and Anandavalli.
