Kochi: A 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday night for allegedly trespassing into the residence of Malayalam film actor Dileep in Aluva, Ernakulam, triggering a brief security scare.

The intruder has been identified as Abhijith (29), a native of Trippanachi in Malappuram.

The incident took place around 11.59 pm, when the man, reportedly in an intoxicated state, scaled the compound wall of the actor’s house along the Kadavu area in Aluva.

The intruder was quickly apprehended by the security guard and house occupants. The accused claimed to be a ‘hardcore fan’ of the actor, but the guards alerted the police. A team from the Aluva Control Room, led by sub-inspector Sajeev A, reached the spot and took the man into custody.

According to the police, the intruder works as a driver in Vazhakulam. The police confirmed that he had consumed alcohol prior to the incident. “He came to Aluva, bought liquor from a Beverages Corporation outlet, and consumed it. On learning that Dileep’s house was nearby, he went there claiming to be a hardcore fan and entered the compound by jumping over the wall,” a police officer said.

Aluva East police registered a case under Section 170 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Section 170 empowers police to arrest a person without a warrant if there is credible information or reasonable suspicion that the individual is about to commit a cognizable offence. In this case, police took the man into preventive detention, suspecting he might pose a further risk.

“As he was heavily intoxicated and unable to provide proper answers during questioning, we detained him. Prima facie, we don’t see any suspicious motive behind the trespass. However, we are checking his background to rule out any security threat,” a police officer said.
