Koyilandi: Moodadi panchayat has launched a project that supplies a litre of purified drinking water for just ₹1. A water ATM has been installed at Nandi from where the public and travellers can collect drinking water.
You could collect a litre of either cold or normal drinking water by inserting a ₹1 coin in the water ATM machine. The machine that works 24 hours was installed by spending ₹5 lakh and was included in the 2024 – 25 annual project. The water supplied through this machine is purified and is fit for drinking purposes.
Water ATM has been installed as part of the heat action plan that is being implemented with the support of the state disaster management authority. When people start using water ATMs for collecting pure drinking water, it would solve the issue of processing plastic mineral water bottles.
The panchayat, meanwhile, aims to completely eliminate plastic waste. Panchayat president CK Sreekumar said that the project has been implemented to ensure good quality drinking water for extremely affordable rate for the public.
