Man booked for assaulting woman lawyer handling wife's divorce case in Kochi

Kochi: The Ernakulam North Police have registered a case based on a complaint from a woman lawyer who alleged that she was physically assaulted by the husband of her client, whom she represents in an ongoing divorce case.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered on Monday, the accused, a native of Thykoodam, allegedly barged into the lawyer’s residence along Vaduthala Freedom Road around 4.15 pm on Sunday. The complaint states that he slapped her on the left cheek, twisted her arm, and hurled obscene abuses at her. The lawyer further alleged that the man insulted her and used force in a manner intended to outrage her modesty.
The FIR also records that the accused attacked his wife, who was present at the house when she tried to intervene, and threatened both women.
The police have registered the case under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman through word or gesture), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 329(4) (criminal trespass), 296(b) (uttering obscene words in a public place), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police said that a notice has been issued to the accused under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to record his statement.
