Mullassery: Paddy farming activities in the Mullassery Manalpuzha-Kannoth fields have come to a halt due to the torrential rains in the area.
Paddy crops on 120 acres of the 336-acre field have been completely submerged in rainwater. Severe crop damage has been reported in the Kannoth area, where the Padavil Nadeel method was used. Meanwhile, Padavu officials KC Muhammad and K. Rajesh stated that cultivation could not be carried out on more than 60 acres due to the heavy rains.
Despite running the motors for 24 hours, the farmers have been unable to drain the water. Currently, three motors are deployed in the field, but rainwater from the higher-lying regions continues to flow down, leading to waterlogging in the lower areas.
The high-level canal project, which was planned to prevent such crises, also remains stalled. If the rain continues, the paddy plants in the field will be entirely destroyed, leaving farmers facing the threat of a severe financial crisis.
