Kakkanad: The drinking water ATM installed by the Thrikkakara municipality to ensure ample supply of pure drinking water is ready for inauguration. The public can fill bottles and jars with quality drinking water by spending just ₹1.

Meanwhile, the counter has been installed at Palachuvadu Ambalapara Road. The water from the public well will be purified in two stages before storing it in the drinking water tanks at the ATM. After the first round of purification, the water from the well reaches the overhead tank that has a capacity of 10,000 litres. From here, water undergoes RO purification before it is transferred to the 500-litre tank in the ATM counter. It is from this tank that water is dispensed through the machine.

The tank at the ATM counter will be automatically filled with purified water, replenishing the amount of water dispensed. In the initial phase, the public should insert coins in the machine to fill their bottles or jars.

However, in the next phase, a special committee would be formed to manage the water ATM and a bank account would be opened to facilitate Google Pay transactions. Municipal chairperson Radhamani Pillai and ward councillor Noushad Pallachi said that the greatest advantage of the water ATM is that the public can collect pure drinking water for less than the market price.
