Feroke: Malayil Soman of Perumukham, a retired Special Village Officer, staged a solo Satyagraha in front of the Assistant Commissioner of Police Office here on Tuesday, alleging police inaction in enforcing a court order against sound pollution.

The protester demanded that the police take immediate steps to curb the rampant use of loudspeakers in public and private events.

According to Soman, high-decibel sound levels well above the permitted limit continue to blare out from venues of political events, religious functions, worship centres, commercial establishments, and festival grounds, causing serious public nuisance. Despite a court order against this, the police have failed to act, he said.

He pointed out that loudspeakers are often used beyond the permitted hours at night. It creates distress, particularly for pregnant women, infants and students. The protest, which began at 10 AM, concluded by 1 PM.
