Mozambique boat tragedy: Kochi youth's body identified

Kochi: The body of Indrajith Santhosh, a 22-year-old mechanical engineer from Ernakulam, has been identified after he went missing in a boat tragedy in Mozambique earlier this month. The incident happened when a boat carrying 21 people, including 14 Indians, capsized in rough seas near Beira port on October 16.
Indrajith, a resident of Veliyanad, Piravom, was working as a hull inspector with Aries Marine & Engineering Services, Kochi. He was aboard the tanker MT Sea Quest when the tragedy struck.
Family members confirmed the identification of his body on Thursday. “Two employees of Aries Marine & Engineering Services travelled to Mozambique after hearing about the incident. They contacted us and confirmed that the body was identified through a tattoo on Indrajith’s hand,” a relative told Onmanorama. “We’ve also been informed that divers have recovered all the bodies, and Indrajith’s body was among those identified. We have already initiated the process to repatriate his body with the help of an agency in Mumbai,” the relative added.
Indrajith, who drew inspiration from his father K N Santhosh, a ship maintenance professional, joined Aries Marine & Engineering Services nine months ago. After completing a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, he chose to follow in his father’s footsteps in the maritime industry. In his role as a hull inspector, Indrajith was responsible for ensuring the safety of ships by inspecting their outer structure for cracks or corrosion. In the short time he worked for the company, he completed over 20 hull inspections, including assignments in Turkey.
Earlier, the body of Sreerag Radhakrishnan, a 35-year-old man from Thevalakkara, Kollam, was also identified. Sreerag, with nearly a decade of experience in ship maintenance, was working with Scorpio Maritime Management India Pvt. Ltd.
