Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government on Friday announced the recipients of the 2025 Kerala Awards, the state’s highest civilian honours modelled on the Padma Awards. Noted historian M R Raghava Warrier and retired naval officer and circumnavigator Abhilash Tomy are among those recognised this year.

Instituted in 2021, the Kerala Awards are presented in three categories — Kerala Jyothi, Kerala Prabha, and Kerala Sree — and are announced annually on the eve of Keralappiravi, the state’s formation day on November 1.

Raghava Warrier will receive the Kerala Jyothi, the highest of the three, for his contributions to education and scholarship. The Kerala Prabha, awarded to two individuals, will go to P B Aneesh for his work in agriculture and Rajshri Warrier for her achievements in the arts.

The Kerala Sree, conferred on five individuals, will be presented to journalist Sasikumar, TKM Trust chairman Shahal Hasan Musaliyar (education), entrepreneur M K Vimal Govind (startups), social worker Jilumol Marriott Thomas (multi-sectoral contributions), and Abhilash Tomy (sports).

The government had invited nominations for the 2025 awards through a notification issued on April 8.

Selection for the honours involves a three-tier process — a primary scrutiny committee at the secretary level, a secondary scrutiny panel, and a final award committee.
