Thrissur: Police have arrested three more persons in connection with the robbery of ₹75 lakh from a businessman at Mannuthy. The arrested have been identified as Abdul Hakeem of Ernakulam, Sabu of Vaduthala, and Rahul of Kanam in Kottayam.

Earlier, Niyas of Kalamassery and Shyam Antony of Angamaly had been taken into custody. Sabu and Rahul were arrested from Kochi Marine Drive, while Abdul Hakeem was nabbed from Nedumbassery. Niyas and Shyam were apprehended from Athani.

According to police, Sabu and Hakeem were the masterminds behind the heist. Investigators suspect that more people were involved.

The incident occurred around 4.35 am on October 25. Mubarak, a Bengaluru-based businessman running a travels firm, had arrived at Mannuthy with ₹75 lakh obtained from the sale of his vehicle. The gang intercepted him and fled with the cash. The robbers used an Innova car fitted with a fake number plate.

The arrests were made by a special team led by City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, with the assistance of the Mannuthy Police. Ollur ACP S P Sudheeran, Thrissur ACP K G Suresh, and Special Branch ACP Saleesh N Shankar were also part of the investigation team.
