Mavelikkara: Vittal Das, a commerce teacher from Kollam and once a popular television serial director, will now be cared for by Kallinmel Dayabhavan.
Recently, Manorama had reported on the plight of the 61-year-old, a resident of Puthur Madam in Karunagappally, who was found living in a shed beside the parallel college where he once taught.
Fr. PK Varghese, Director of Kallinmel St. Mary’s Dayabhavan, took charge of Vittal Das after contacting Orthodox Church Diocese PRO Ani Varghese and VN Nainan, owner of the Imperial Parallel College at Michel Junction, who had provided the shed for him. Vn Nainan, his son Don Nainan, and Infant Jesus English Medium School Principal Sr. Shanthy Antony were also present. Fr. PK Varghese was accompanied by Dayabhavan Coordinator PV Alexander and home nurse R Ratheesh.
Upon reaching Dayabhavan, Vittal Das was bathed, fed, and taken to the hospital for medical care.
Children associated with the Nalla Padam initiative also came forward to support him by gifting new clothes. Students of Infant Jesus English Medium School, part of the Nalla Padam programme, extended their help after learning about his hardships through the Manorama report. Principal Sr. Shanthy Antony handed over the clothes on behalf of the students before Vittal Das was taken to St. Mary’s Dayabhavan.
The Principal also announced that the school’s Nalla Padam Club would contribute a monthly allowance towards Vittal Das’s food expenses.
