Palakkad: In a tragic incident, the bodies of 14-year-old twin brothers who drowned in a pond of Lankeswaram Shiva Temple at Chittoor were recovered on Sunday morning. The deceased are Raman and Lakshman, Class 9 students of Govt. Boys High School, Chittoor.

The boys had gone missing on Saturday evening, and their bodies were recovered during a search operation by Fire and Rescue personnel the following morning.

Residents were left shocked, as the children had reportedly learned to swim in the same pond. According to them, the twins were last seen near the pond around 6 pm on Saturday. Their electric scooter and clothes were later found on the bank of the waterbody.

It is suspected that one of the boys drowned while swimming, and the other was trapped in the water while trying to rescue his brother. The pond’s depth had reportedly increased following recent renovation works. Manorama News reported that drowning incidents have been on the rise in Palakkad district.
