Thrissur's Muriyad panchayat rolls out action plan to tackle climate change

Irinjalakkuda: Muriyad became the first panchayat in the district to roll out an action plan to effectively tackle climate change. The ‘Action Plan on Climate Change’ rightly addresses the issue of climate change, studies show how climate change has affected the lives of the people in the panchayat and also anticipates how it may affect the future generations.
Minister R Bindu unveiled the action plan and inaugurated the climate conclave conducted as part of the event. Meanwhile, the event was presided over by panchayat president Jose K Chittilappally.
The action plan includes projects like establishing a mini weather station exclusively for the agricultural panchayat, focussing on the functioning of sluices in the cole fields based on the weather forecast in the monsoon, coordinating the sowing and harvesting of paddy and developing the unique ecology of the panchayat to suit the weather conditions. The action plan has been executed with the help of KILA by including it in the panchayat’s annual plan.
