Thiruvalla: 'Kuttees Thattukada', an eatery run by second-standard students, has become the highlight of Thirumoolavilasam UP School— and a hit among teachers, parents, and the local community. The initiative, launched by the school's motivational club, aims to nurture entrepreneurial skills and teamwork in children alongside their regular studies.

The young students took charge of both cooking and selling at the thattukada, offering a spread of traditional delicacies and sweets. The menu featured items such as chakkayada (jackfruit treat), unniyappam, flattened ghee rice, banana fry, payasam, and idli with chutney. The community-style cooking, using ingredients brought from home, turned into a fun, hands-on lesson in teamwork and self-learning.

Such initiatives are organised to connect textbook content with real-life experiences. Headmistress Sister Aleena said that collective cooking helped children organically understand the importance of unity, basic calculation, and the value of money. The school made special arrangements to ensure safety and hygiene during the cooking process.
