Chalakudy: Five people, including two women, were arrested on Friday after police seized MDMA from the Chalakudy KSRTC bus depot. The District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) carried out the inspection based on a tip-off received by the Thrissur Rural SP that a substance was being transported on a KSRTC bus.

According to police, the two women had arrived by bus with the contraband and were caught while handing it over to the men.

The arrested individuals are Vidya (33) and Shalini (31) of Vaikom in Kottayam; and Shinaj (33), Aju alias Ajmal (35), and Achu alias Ajmal (25), all from Kaipamangalam in Thrissur.

Police said Shinaj is already an accused in a drug smuggling case in Bagalur, Karnataka, and also faces charges in an assault case registered at the Mathilakam police station. Further investigation is underway.
