Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rain accompanied by thunder will continue to lash isolated places across Kerala till November 18. A yellow alert has been issued for four districts — Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Kannur — on Friday. A yellow alert indicates rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

According to the IMD bulletin issued at 1 pm on Friday, light rainfall is expected in isolated parts of the state by 4 pm.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has advised fishermen and coastal residents in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur to exercise caution as there is a possibility of the Kallakkadal (swell waves) phenomenon on Saturday from 2.30 am to 11.30 pm. The sea is likely to be turbulent during this period, with waves expected to rise between 0.2 metres and 0.7 metres.

In view of the Kallakadal warning, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has banned beach-based tourism activities in these six districts. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea on Saturday. The public has also been restricted from visiting beaches and entering the sea.
