Chevayur: The strike by senior doctors at the Kozhikode Government Medical College on Thursday left patients bearing the brunt as services across major departments came to a halt.

With doctors abstaining from duty in all departments except the Emergency Department, there were very few doctors available in the OPs. Perhaps due to advance information about the strike, the number of patients too remained low. Even in the medicine and surgery wards, patient turnout was minimal.

However, in the Urology and Nephrology departments, patients who had come from nearby areas had to wait long to see a doctor due to the shortage of doctors. Patient numbers were also low as the Neurology and Cardiology OPs did not function on Thursday.

In all OPs, the PG doctors and house surgeons examined the patients during the day.
