Thiruvananthapuram: The condition of Sreekutty (19), who was booted off a moving train by a drunk passenger, continues to remain critical, hospital authorities confirmed. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital here.
“She was admitted to the hospital on November 2, and there has been no improvement in her condition due to the brain injury. However, the other wounds caused by the fall from the moving train have begun to heal,” said hospital authorities.
Meanwhile, Archana, an eyewitness in the case, has identified the lone accused, Suresh Kumar.
Her statement was recorded by a magistrate at Poojappura Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. She told the magistrate that it was Suresh Kumar who attacked both her and Sreekutty. The magistrate’s report is expected to be submitted before the court on Friday.
Suresh Kumar was allegedly provoked when Sreekutty, standing near the door of the general compartment of the Kerala Express, questioned him about smoking inside the compartment. He then kicked her out of the train and also attempted to push Archana out of the bogie.
While the police plan to seek Suresh Kumar’s custody for further interrogation, they have yet to trace the main witness in the case — a youth in a red shirt. Other passengers in the compartment had rescued Archana and physically overpowered Suresh Kumar under the leadership of this youth.
