Perambra: At Kizhakkayil House in Eravattoor, the local body election has turned into a true family affair this time.

Three sisters from this family, identified as Vanaja, Saritha, and Sajitha, have stepped into the polls together, each carrying forward a political legacy shaped by their late father and strengthened by the support of their mother, Omana. The trio are contesting on CPM tickets from different seats.

Vanaja (56), the eldest, is the LDF candidate in Ward 17 of Perambra Panchayat. This marks her debut in electoral politics. She also serves as a Director at the Perambra Regional Bank.

Saritha (50), the second eldest, is contesting from the Kaiveli division of the Kunnumel Block Panchayat. In the previous term, she served as the permanent Standing Committee Chairperson at Kaayakkodi Panchayat. She had earlier drawn widespread attention by winning as an independent candidate from Ward 9, a seat long considered a UDF stronghold.

Sajitha (46), the youngest of the trio, is also stepping into public life for the first time, contesting from Ward 6 of Maniyoor Panchayat.

The three sisters entered public service inspired by their father, Kunjikrishnan Nair, a CPM activist and an artist who was actively involved in drama, dance, Oppana, writing and even cooking. The trio launched their campaign after gathering at their family home in Eravattoor, paying tribute to their father’s memory and seeking their mother’s blessings before setting out.
