Wayanad: A 32-year-old man was injured in a wild elephant attack at Bavali on Monday. The injured, Devarajan, is a resident of the Sanamangalam tribal settlement.

The incident occurred when Nasar, who runs a vegetable shop in Bavali, came across a wild elephant while travelling to his shop on a scooter. He tried to take a U-turn to escape, but lost control of the vehicle and jumped off before the elephant charged. Nasar managed to run to safety.

The elephant then turned towards Devarajan, who had stepped out of his house after hearing the sound of the animal crushing the scooter. It attacked him before fleeing as residents rushed to the spot and raised an alarm.

Devarajan sustained serious injuries to his leg and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Mananthavady. His condition is stable, according to relatives. Residents said the elephant has been roaming in the area for several weeks and is known to frequently raid crops.
