Mukkam: Tribals who arrived to hunt wild boars in the municipality here on Monday brought down 22 animals using bows and arrows in a single day.

 Members of the Kurichyar community from Wayanad district carried out the hunting operation in association with shooters from the Kerala Independent Farmers Association (KIFA). The 56-member team was led by tribal archer Appachan, KIFA district coordinator Tenny Thomas and KIFA zonal convener Vinod Manassery.

Descendants of the renowned archers of the Kurichyar tribe took part in the hunt, assisted by trained hunting dogs. The operation was conducted in Porasserry, Chembakkattu Mala, and areas near Erambra, Muthalam, and Vattoliparambu within the municipal limits. 

Farmers in the municipality have been demanding a solution to the worsening wild boar menace. Recently, they even staged a relay satyagraha at the entrance of the municipal office demanding solution.
