Even election candidates not spared: Stray dog attack injures 11 in Alappuzha

Alappuzha: Eleven people- including two local body election candidates and a four-year-old boy on his way to anganwadi- were injured in stray dog attacks reported from two areas on Wednesday. In one incident, a dog bit off part of a woman’s finger.
Ten people were attacked along Mannancherry Roadmukku and surrounding areas, while another person was injured in the Mambala locality of Chakkarakkulam, Cherthala. The stray dog responsible for the Roadmukku attacks was later found dead. LDF candidate Sudharma, who is contesting from Ward 10 of Mannancherry panchayat, suffered a bite on her leg.
In a separate incident, UDF candidate Haritha, contesting from the Chakkarakkulam ward of Cherthala municipality, was bitten on the neck by a stray dog at Mambala. She was admitted to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Bheema (65), of Kannikonil in Roadmukku, was attacked while making household rounds selling soap powder. As she bent to pick up a stone, the dog bit off the tip of her finger and injured four others. She was first taken to the General Hospital and later shifted to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Anjal Aneesh (4) was attacked near Roadmukku. The dog dragged him by his hand before his mother and relatives rescued him.
Atul Krishna (18), of Pulikkattil in Vadakkanaryadu, was the first to be attacked while distributing newspapers near Kaalaikkal Sree Ramakrishnan Temple around 6.30 AM. Mobin Varghese (33), of Chirayil in Thirumala ward, was bitten below the knee after being attacked from behind. Abdul Nasar (63), of Nafyanaveliyil, was bitten on the leg while on his way to his daughter’s home, with his dhoti torn off in the attack.
Satheesh (57), a native of Kaalath, was also attacked from behind while standing at the construction site of his home, sustaining two bites on his foot. Geetha (56), of Vala in Roadmukku, and Bindu were also bitten. All victims were taken to the General Hospital and vaccinated.
Local residents complain that the stray dog menace in the area has worsened. Previous incidents have also been reported of stray dogs chasing and attacking two-wheeler riders and other road users.
