Elappulli: The bus waiting shelter at Para junction collapsed during the heavy rains and gusty winds that lashed the region on Saturday morning.
A nurse from a private hospital, who was waiting for a bus at the spot, suffered minor injuries, while an elderly man standing nearby narrowly escaped by running to safety. The injured woman was identified as 19-year-old Adhika, a native of Kakkathodu near Elappulli, who works as a nurse at a private hospital near here.
At the time of the incident, only Adhika and the elderly man were inside the bus waiting shelter. The roof of the structure collapsed completely.
The bus waiting shelter was originally constructed using the Local Asset Development Fund of V S Achuthanandan MLA in 2017. It had been completely damaged in December 2023 after being rammed by a speeding truck. The shelter was later rebuilt under the leadership of the truck owner. Now, this reconstructed structure has collapsed once again in the heavy rains.
A Prabhakaran, MLA, who visited the site, said that a new bus waiting shelter with better facilities will be constructed at the same spot once the local body elections are over.
