Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its rain forecast for Kerala, issuing an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on Sunday. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam will continue under yellow alert.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has announced that sirens will be sounded in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts today at 4 pm as part of the KaWaCHam warning system.
An orange alert signifies 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, while a yellow alert indicates 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within the same period.
According to the IMD, heavy rain accompanied by lightning, thunder and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph is likely to persist in the state till November 26 due to a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea.
“Heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala from November 22 to 26, 2025, and over Lakshadweep on November 22 and 23, 2025. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely at one or two places over Kerala and Lakshadweep from November 22 to 26, 2025,” the IMD stated.
Sabarimala pilgrims have been advised to exercise caution as moderate rainfall is expected in Sannidanam, Pampa and Nilakkal on Sunday.
Fishermen warning
Fisherfolk have been restricted from venturing into the sea along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts from Sunday to Tuesday, as adverse weather conditions with strong winds reaching 35–55 kmph are expected. Those engaged in deep-sea fishing have been advised to return to the nearest coast by Tuesday.
According to the IMD, the sea may remain turbulent due to the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea off the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, Andaman Sea, and the southeast and adjoining parts of the Bay of Bengal till Wednesday.
