Kodungallur: A tree in Ward 21 of the Sreenarayanapuram Panchayat in Thrissur was cut down shortly after it was used to host the campaign board of a candidate in he local body election.
The tree on which NDA candidate Sujitha Madhu, a BJP leader contesting from Kattan Bazar (Ward 21), had placed her campaign flex was felled under the cover of darkness.
On Saturday evening, BJP workers had fixed the flex board of the candidate onto the tree. However, by Sunday morning, both the tree and the flex board had vanished. All that remains at the spot now is a stump. BJP leader Subeesh Chethipadath alleged that CPM workers were behind the act, claiming it was done out of fear of losing the election.
