Vandoor: The daily painting exhibition by thirteen-year-old K Niranjana on social media has now completed an uninterrupted 1,500 days.

A Class 8 student of Vandoor Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Niranjana began posting one artwork every day during the pandemic period. What started when she was a Class 3 student at Thrikkodithanam Government LP School in Changanassery has since evolved into a remarkable and disciplined creative journey. She first shared her drawings in Vidyarangam Kalasahithyavedhi, a social media group of the Arts and Literature Association.

Every artwork she uploads is also accompanied by a short note highlighting the significance of the day.

Entirely self-taught, Niranjana has created portraits of numerous historical figures, writers and scientists. Contemporary themes, such as ASHA workers’ protests, floods, wars and terror attacks, also find a place in her work.

The artistic talent of Niranjana has also brought her several accolades. She is a two-time district-level winner of the Balarama Children’s Day Painting Contest and a State-level awardee in the anti-addiction message card competition organised by the Excise-Vimukti Mission. She has also earned recognition in competitions conducted by the Union Ministry, Metro Rail Project, the State Child Welfare Committee’s Varnolsavam contest, and various other platforms.

Niranjana is the daughter of C D Kamalasanan, a retired Forest Range Officer, and Dr Jalaja Bhaskaran, a teacher at GGVHSS Vandoor. Her brother, Rohit Kamal, is also active in painting competitions.
