Malappuram: A migrant worker was killed in a wild elephant attack at Nilambur on Thursday. The victim, Sharon (55), a native of Jharkhand, was working as a rubber tapper at the Arayad Estate. The incident occurred around 9 am.

According to residents, the elephant had been spotted in the area for the past two days. It charged at Sharon and his co-workers while they were returning to their labour camp after tapping work. While the others managed to flee, Sharon got trapped in front of the elephant.

“The elephant was hiding behind rubber trees when we were crossing the area,” said one worker who narrowly escaped being trampled.

Forest department officials and police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Nilambur district hospital.
