Thiruvananthapuram: Aryancode police opened fire at an accused on Thursday morning after he attempted to attack the police with a machete. The incident occurred when a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Tanzim Abdul Samad moved in to arrest Kiran, who faces multiple criminal cases, including charges under Section 15 of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
According to the police, Kiran tried to attack the officers with a machete, prompting the SHO to fire in self-defence. The officer aimed at Kiran’s leg, but the bullet did not strike him as he fled the spot. Kiran, who has been involved in several criminal cases, had earlier been ousted from the area under the KAAPA Act. However, the police received information that he had returned home. The SHO and his team reached the house to take him into preventive custody.
Police said Kiran then attempted to attack the SHO again, swinging the machete at him several times. The SHO responded by opening fire. Kiran escaped, and a search operation is underway to arrest him, officers said.
