Kattappana: Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly swindling ₹2.40 lakh from a woman by promising her admission to a nursing college. The accused, Binu (49), is a native of Wadakkanchery in Thrissur.

According to police, Binu collected money from a woman in Kattappana after offering to secure admission in nursing colleges in Pala (Kottayam) and Thiruvalla (Pathanamthitta). The victim reportedly contacted him after seeing an advertisement on social media. Misled by his false promises, she paid ₹2.40 lakh for the admission. However, when no admission materialised, she demanded a refund, which the accused refused to return.

Realising she had been cheated, the woman filed a complaint with Kattappana DySP VA Nishadmon. An investigation was launched on the instructions of District Police Chief KM Sabu Mathew.

A team comprising Kattappana CI TC Murukan, SI Biju Baby, SCPO Jobin Jose, and Ralph Sebastian traced the accused to Palakkad and arrested him. Police said Binu is involved in several similar fraud cases.
