Mystery of the old treasury cellar in Vadakara to be unveiled soon

Vadakara: Built during the British era and left unopened for decades, the cellar of the old strong room at the treasury building has become the focus of attention as authorities prepare to reveal its contents.
Sealed for nearly 50 years, the cellar has remained untouched ever since a new strong room was constructed at the treasury building here. None of those who once had access inside the cellar are no longer alive, leaving its contents and their history a complete unknown.
Former treasury staff believe the cellar is likely empty, noting that there was no reason to open it for decades. Yet curiosity has grown over it, especially after an incident at the old taluk office building nearby. Following a fire there, an inspection of its old strong room uncovered old insignias, coins, and other rare antique items. This , in turn, has raised speculation that the treasury cellar might hold similar discoveries.
The long-locked cellar is scheduled to be opened within a week. Officials from the Department of Archaeology, the District Treasury, Revenue authorities, and local police will be present when its door is finally unsealed.
