Adimali mudslide: Govt forgets Biju as family still awaits relief

Idukki: The deadly mud slip in Adimali that claimed the life of Nedumbillikudi resident N K Biju has left his family waiting in vain for government support, even months after the tragedy. The landslip, which occurred on October 25, 2025, at a stretch of the national highway, allegedly due to unscientific construction, buried several houses in Laksham Veedu Nagar, leaving eight of them completely destroyed.
Biju died after being trapped inside one of the houses swallowed by the mud. His wife, Sandhya, sustained serious injuries and continues to undergo treatment at Rajagiri Hospital. Despite the severity of the incident, the family has yet to receive any form of financial assistance from the government.
Residents recall that Minister Roshy Augustine, along with district officials and other elected representatives, had visited the site immediately after the disaster. They assured Biju's relatives that compensation would be announced at the very next Cabinet meeting. However, despite multiple Cabinet meetings held since October 25, no announcement was made.
Adding to the frustration, only half of the 50 families who were shifted to the relief camp at Adimali Government School have received the ₹15,000 compensation promised by the district collector from the contractor responsible for the project.
Meanwhile, local residents have begun protesting what they call the continued apathy of the contract company, the state government, and the district administration.
