Edakkara/ Malappuram: The Malappuram district anti-narcotics squad (DANSAF) arrested two Kozhikode natives on Saturday for allegedly smuggling MDMA and hashish oil from Bengaluru. The accused have been identified as Kunhirayinkandi Shafeeq (36) of Puthiyangadi and Nalodipparamba Subeena (30) of Nadakkavu.
The arrests were made by Sub Inspector K R Justin and the DANSAF team at Edakkara town, under the direction of Malappuram District Police Chief R Viswanath. Officers seized 39.6 grams of MDMA and 76.4 grams of hashish oil from the duo. The drugs were found taped to the woman’s leg, a method intended to evade checks.
Police said the operation followed intelligence inputs about a network transporting synthetic drugs into the district from other states. Acting on specific information about a vehicle suspected of carrying narcotic substances, DANSAF and Edakkara police launched a joint operation under the supervision of Nilambur DySP Saju K Abraham and Narcotics Cell DySP N O Sibi, leading to the arrests.
Investigators said they have gathered leads on other members of the smuggling network, and further interrogations are underway.
Shafeeq is a repeat offender, with multiple cases against him, including drug trafficking cases in Kalpetta and Pulpally in Wayanad, an assault case at Kozhikode Town Police Station, and a bike theft case at Kunnamangalam Police Station. He was currently out on bail.
