Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the rape case against suspended Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, one of his women supporters has landed in trouble for allegedly defaming Youth Congress general secretary Sajana B Sajan on social media. Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police registered a case against Mahila Congress Pathanamthitta district secretary Renjitha Pulickan on Saturday based on Sajana’s complaint.

According to police, Renjitha targeted Sajana after the latter spoke out against Mamkoottathil, who had earlier faced allegations of sexual misconduct, even before Nemom police registered the rape case.

Sajana had recently written to the Congress high command seeking an organisational inquiry against Mamkoottathil. Earlier, she had publicly demanded his removal from the party when allegations against the MLA surfaced.

According to the FIR, Renjitha allegedly defamed Sajana through multiple posts on Facebook and Instagram, using abusive language. The posts were made on November 27, when the allegations against Mamkoottathil resurfaced, police said.

Renjitha has been booked for offences under Sections 79 (any word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 67 of the Information Technology Act (publication or transmission of obscene electronic material).

Police said the Mahila Congress leader is a strong supporter of Mamkoottathil and had posted several messages defending him. Her statement will be recorded soon as part of the investigation, they added.
