Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rain is likely to continue in isolated places across Kerala till Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for three districts — Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Idukki — on Tuesday.

“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala from December 3 to 6, 2025, and over Lakshadweep on December 4 and 5,” the IMD said in its alert.

Sabarimala pilgrims have been advised to exercise caution as light to moderate rainfall is expected at Pampa, Nilakkal and Sannidhanam on Tuesday.

A yellow alert has also been issued for seven districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram — on Wednesday.

The northeast monsoon in Kerala is expected to retreat by the end of December.

Meanwhile, Chennai and nearby districts continued to receive steady downpour since Monday due to the remnants of the now-weakened Cyclone Ditwah, leading to inundation of roads, highways and low-lying areas, including some residential pockets. A red alert has been sounded for Chennai as a deep depression formed over the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
