Thrissur: A Congress sympathiser and digital creator has been arrested for sharing the photo and personal details of the woman who has accused Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil of sexual assault. The accused, Seejo Jose (45) of Mekamthuruthy House, Kunnathur, Vellangallur, allegedly revealed the survivor’s identity through his Facebook profile, “Seejo Poovathum Kadavil.”

Thrissur Rural Police made the arrest based on a case registered by the Nemom Police. Officers said Sijo shared the survivor’s photo and other identity-revealing information without her knowledge or consent. Police have seized the mobile phone used for the offence. The investigation team is led by Irinjalakuda Police Inspector Shaji M K and Sub-Inspector Soumya E U.

Earlier, the Cyber Police arrested commentator and right-wing observer Rahul Easwar for allegedly revealing the survivor’s identity. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court remanded him to 14 days’ custody after rejecting his bail application.

Rahul Mamkootathil is booked under non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for sexually assaulting the woman, recording her nude video without consent, threatening her, and forcing the termination of her pregnancy through his aide. According to the FIR, the assaults occurred on multiple occasions between March and May 2025 in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad, with his aide Jobi named as the second accused.

Charges include rape (Section 64), forced termination of pregnancy (Section 89), causing bodily harm (Section 115), criminal intimidation (Section 351), and offences under the IT Act, including Section 66C. The case was initially filed as a zero FIR at Valiyamala before being transferred to Nemom. Rahul’s lawyer has termed the allegations politically motivated.
