Mananthavady: A policeman was found hanging inside the residential quarters within the Vellamunda police station limits on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Ibrayikutti, 35, a native of Karakkuni, Edavaka. He was serving as a Civil Police Officer at the Panamaram police station and had been staying alone at the quarters as his wife was away at her family home.

The incident came to light after he failed to respond to repeated phone calls from his wife. Officers from the Vellamunda station reached the quarters, found the door locked from inside, and broke it open after receiving no response.

Following the inquest, the body was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Mananthavady. He is survived by his wife Shameela, who works at the Crime Branch office in Wayanad, and their child.

According to the police, it appears to be a case of suicide. No note was recovered, and the reason behind the act remains unclear. The body was released after the autopsy, and the last rites were held on Wednesday evening.
