Kuravilangad: A rare white crow has been spotted in Vempally, drawing attention from locals. The bird was rescued by Biju, 45, of the Kanjirathummoolayil house, after it fell to the ground injured during an attack by other crows near a hotel along the MC Road.
Biju, a known animal lover, took the albino crow home and treated its serious injuries, including wounds to its wings. But the harassment from other crows continued even after its recovery, prompting him to borrow a cage from neighbours to keep the rare bird safe. An earlier attempt to release the crow had failed when a group of crows attacked it again, so Biju decided to care for it temporarily.
Biju has been feeding the crow coconut and rice, and the bird has become friendly with him. While he enjoys rescuing injured dogs and cats, he is unsure of the next steps for his rare guest and is open to handing it over to the forest department.
Albino crows are extremely rare, resulting from a genetic mutation. Experts say only one in 30,000 to 100,000 crows is born white.
