Pattambi: A statue of Swami Vivekananda, made by master sculptor Surendra Krishnan, has been placed at Ottapalam Mayannur Karnikaram. This is the tallest statue of the renowned sage in Kerala. It was made at the sculptor’s home and then moved to Karnikaram at Mayannur in Thrissur district. It took more than five months for Surendra Krishnan to craft this concrete statue that stands tall at 10 feet.

Surendra Krishnan was in the news as the sculptor who crafted the gigantic statue of Naranathu Branthan at Naduvattam Rariyanalloor hill. Countless statues of Mahatma Gandhi that were made in Surendra Krishnan’s workshop have been placed at various places across the state. The statue of Swami Vivekananda was made by spending more than Rs 5 lakh.

The statue’s height would come up to 13 feet when the stand is also added. Surendra Krishnan had earlier built the statue of noted tusker Guruvayoor Keshavan for Karnikaram, a rehabilitation centre for differently abled people run by the charitable organisation Ottappalam Mayannur Thanal.

Meanwhile, it was the same sculptor who crafted the famous Kaliamardanam scene at Balashramam and the statue of the popular cartoon character Luttappi for children. The statue of Swami Vivekanand was placed ahead of the inauguration of Karnikaram special village under the Nila Seva Samiti. The Karnikaram special village will be inaugurated by the Kerala Governor on December 24.
