Thrissur: An elephant ran amok inside the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple on Tuesday, triggering panic among devotees and temple staff.

The elephant involved has been identified as Devaswom-owned tusker Sreedharan. It turned aggressive while completing the fourth circumambulation during the 'Vilakk Eezhunnallippu' ritual.

Temple authorities immediately evacuated devotees from the area. After nearly 45 minutes of effort, the elephant was brought under control and moved out. The 'Vilakku Ezhunnallippu' was later completed after another elephant was brought in.
