A dispute over fishing escalated into gunfire and a stabbing at Panavally in the Thirunelli panchayat near Mananthavady on Wednesday evening, leaving three people injured.

According to the police, Varikkanikuzhiyil Ebin (21) of Emmadi sustained minor injuries to his eye after being shot with an air gun. His father, Benny (50), and their neighbour, Raju (50), were also injured in the incident.

Police said Ebin was fishing in a river near his house using a net when he got into an argument with Adandakunnu Thadathil Augustin, also known as Baby (53). The accused allegedly returned later, abused Ebin and fired an air gun at him, hitting him in the face.

After the incident, Benny and Raju rushed to the spot to question the accused. During the ensuing scuffle, Baby allegedly stabbed both of them, causing injuries to their hands. They were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Manathavadi, for treatment.
