Kattappana: A 32-year-old woman was seriously injured after her former husband and his accomplice forcibly entered her house and attacked her with a sharp weapon on Tuesday.

The woman, Sashikala, a resident of G S Bhavan at Thottarukil near Nariyampara, sustained grievous injuries in the assault.

According to police, the accused, Mukesh (35), the woman’s former husband, arrived at her rented house along with a friend and kicked open the front door before attacking her. The assailants allegedly hacked her on the hands and legs with a machete in an attempt to murder her.

The incident occurred around 11.15 am when the woman was alone at home. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and alerted her relatives, following which she was taken to Kattappana Taluk Hospital for first aid. Due to the severity of her injuries, including fractures to both hands and legs and deep cut wounds, she was later shifted to the intensive care unit of Idukki Medical College.

Kattappana police have registered a case for attempt to murder and launched an investigation.
