Kozhikode: A 6-year-old boy was strangled to death by his mentally ill mother at their residence in Punnassery on Saturday morning. The deceased is Nanda Harshan, the son of Bijeesh from Narikkuni and Anu Kottayil from Punnassery.

Anu reportedly had a mental illness and was taking medications for the same. The 38-year-old woman had called the police control room and confessed to having strangled her son.

"Though our team rushed to the spot and shifted the boy to the nearby hospital in Narikkuni, he was declared brought dead," a police officer said. Following the incident, the police arrested Anu and presented her before a court in Kozhikode.

Nanda Harshan was a UKG student at the Saraswathi Vidhya Mandir school in Kakkur, while Anu worked at KSFE.
