Walayar lynching: Bhayar was bleeding from nose & lips when taken to hospital, SIT constituted, accused have criminal past

Ram Narayan Bhayar, the 31-year-old migrant labourer from Chhatisgarh, who was allegedly beaten to death at Attappallam, was brought to Palakkad District hospital with grave multiple injuries to his body, according to the remand report submitted by the Walayar police in the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court - 1, Palakkad. The Chief Medical Officer Dr Subin Francis noted that Bhayar complained of unbearable pain ad was bleeding from lips and nose. He told the SHO Rajeev N S that the injuries were life-threatening.
The police have reported that all the five accused in the case; Anu,Prasad, Murali, Anandhan and Vipin have got multiple cases registered against them in Walayar, Town North and Kasaba police stations. They have been accused of serious charges like attempt to murder, causing hurt, violation of public order, use of criminal force against a public servant, wrongful restraint and destruction of public property.
Anu, the first accused in the case has 15 cases against him. The police told the court that granting them bail would send a wrong message to the society and that they will go into hiding. There are chances that the accused may influence the witnesses which will impact the smooth conduct of the probe. The police are in the process of identifying the other people involved in the case, the SHO informed the court.
Anu, Prasad and Murali appeared for questioning on December 18 and their arrest was recorded. Anandhan and Vipin were taken into custody from their homes and their arrest was recorded on December 18.
Bhayar was attacked on December 17 between 1 pm and 4 pm by five accused and other group of people using stick and bare hands. Anu and Prasad hit him with a stick, while he was repeatedly slapped by Murali. Anandhan kicked him in the stomach and Vipin slammed his head with hands. Bhayar succumbed to injuries at the District Hospital, Palakkad.
The police have collected statements from the witnesses and analysed the video footage of the incident. Palakkad District Police Chief Ajit kumar told Onmanorama that there is likely to be more accused in the case. "Video footage is being analysed and more people will be arraigned as accused," said Ajit Kumar.
The District Crime Branch has taken over the investigation. A Special Investigation Team comprising Crime Branch and officials of Walayar station has been constituted. The probe is being conducted under the supervision of the Palakkad SP.
Bhayar was reportedly lynched by a mob on suspicion of theft after he was detained for hours on December 17. The video of the horrific incident which was widely circulated showed Bhayar in a weakened state following bodily assault, being bombarded with questions by a group of people. The accused have been charged with murder.
