Differently-abled people find life partners at matchmaking event in Malappuram

Malappuram: As many as 48 differently-abled persons found their life partners at a unique matchmaking programme organised at Areekode in Malappuram district. Organisers of the event, 'Parivar', said another 20 participants have also expressed interest in finding suitable matches. The organisation has assured support in arranging the weddings of the couples.
Differently abled persons from across the state arrived with their families for the programme, with around 550 participants registering for matchmaking. The event drew nearly 4,500 people, including participants and relatives, many of whom learned about it through social media platforms.
Special facilities were arranged at the venue to enable discussions between families. For many, the event marked their first opportunity to explore matrimony. A 26-year-old man from Wayanad and a young woman from Munderi, who attended the programme with their families, decided to proceed with marriage after initial discussions. Similarly, a 28-year-old man from Kodiyathur in Kozhikode district, who lives under the care of his mother, also found a life partner at the event.
Participants, including those using wheelchairs, expressed happiness and relief at finding partners in an inclusive and supportive environment.
A team of businesspeople from abroad also took part in the programme after learning about it on social media. The team, which included entrepreneurs from places such as Gujarat, USA and Kenya, promised financial assistance for the initiative.
District panchayat member PA Jabbar Haji inaugurated the programme. Members of district and block panchayats and Parivar committee office-bearers were among those who attended the event.
