Thiruvananthapuram: Independent councillor Patoor Radhakrishnan, elected from the Kannammoola ward, has announced his support for the BJP in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. He said he would back V V Rajesh and Ashanath in the elections to the mayor and deputy mayor posts.

In a statement, Radhakrishnan’s election committee said the Green Flow Kannammoola manifesto, a strategic development plan put forward by Radhakrishnan for Ward 87, was submitted to all three political fronts. However, it noted that BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar was the only leader to issue a public statement in support of the project's full implementation.

With Radhakrishnan’s backing, the BJP has dispelled concerns over falling short of a simple majority. The party, which had already secured 50 seats, now has the support of 51 councillors. In the 101-member corporation, 51 seats are required to form a simple majority. Radhakrishnan announced his support soon after the BJP named V V Rajesh as its mayoral candidate.
